From Structural Requirements to Practical Structure Proposals

DragonStructure is a specialized platform for understanding modular temporary structures, structural applications and system integration.

We focus on a question that often comes before the product list:

What structure does the project actually need, and how should that structure be configured?

Our core approach is:

Structural Requirement → Structural Proposal → Structural Decision

Instead of treating a temporary structure as a collection of individual Ringlock components, aluminum trusses, platforms, stairs or accessories, we look at how these elements work together as a complete structure for a specific function.

That may be a stage platform, roof support structure, FOH position, LED screen support, sound tower, grandstand, working platform, access structure or a hybrid system combining several structural systems.

DragonStructure is therefore not intended to be another conventional product catalogue.

It is a place to understand what the structure is, how it is configured, why a proposal develops in a particular direction, and what practical considerations can change the final solution.

Why We Created DragonStructure

A Customer Usually Starts With a Requirement, Not a Component List

In real quotation work, customers rarely begin with a perfect BOQ.

They may simply tell us:

  • the size of a stage they want to build;
  • the height of an LED screen;
  • the space required for an FOH control position;
  • the height of a sound or line-array support tower;
  • the dimensions of an existing roof;
  • the Ringlock or Layher-compatible equipment they already own;
  • or a rough idea shown in a drawing, photo or sketch.

Sometimes the information is complete. Often it is not.

The real work starts when those requirements have to be translated into a structure.

A platform may need access.

A roof may need a supporting structure below it.

A sound system may require a dedicated support area.

An LED wall may change the functional arrangement of the structure.

Existing Ringlock equipment may be reusable, but additional modules or different interfaces may still be required.

And sometimes a structure that initially appears to be a simple Ringlock system gradually becomes a hybrid structure because aluminum truss, stairs, platforms or other systems need to work together.

This requirement-to-structure process is the reason DragonStructure exists.

From Components to Complete Structures


We Prefer to Ask “What Are You Building?” Before “What Do You Need to Buy?”

Ringlock standards, ledgers, braces, base jacks and decks are components.

Aluminum trusses are components.

Stairs, guardrails and access platforms are components.

But the customer normally needs a complete functional structure.

That distinction changes how we look at a project.

Instead of starting from an isolated component, DragonStructure starts from the function of the complete structure and then examines its configuration.

This is why our content is organized around structural applications such as Ringlock Structures rather than simply listing individual scaffold components.

The same principle also explains our interest in modularity. A relatively small family of standardized components can be reorganized into structures serving very different functions.

Ringlock, Access and Hybrid Structures

One Structural System Does Not Solve Every Project in the Same Way

Ringlock is one of the main structural systems studied on DragonStructure because its modular grid makes it adaptable to many temporary applications.

Depending on the project, Ringlock can form or support structures such as:

Stage & Platform Structures
Temporary elevated platforms and stage-support systems.

Roof Support Structures
Supporting structures developed around temporary roof requirements.

FOH & Control Structures
Elevated or multi-level positions for front-of-house, lighting, sound or production control.

LED Screen Structures
Temporary structural configurations associated with LED screen installations.

Tower and platform arrangements associated with sound and line-array applications.

Modular stepped structures developed around audience seating requirements.

But DragonStructure is not limited to Ringlock.

Some projects require access platforms, working platforms, stairs or walkways. Others require two or more structural systems to work together.

Hybrid Structures

A hybrid structure combines different structural systems because the complete project cannot be understood effectively as a single product family.

The purpose is not to make a structure “hybrid” for its own sake.

The combination should follow the functional requirements of the project.

DragonStructure did not begin as a theoretical structural website.

Its content grows from the practical experience behind DragonStage, including years of work involving event equipment manufacturing, quotations, customized structures, drawings, component configuration, production and project supply.

That experience matters because many structural questions do not arrive in a clean textbook format.

A customer may send an incomplete drawing.

A quotation may reveal that an originally assumed configuration is not appropriate.

Practical reasoning based on previous quotation, manufacturing, installation, system and project experience.

Verified Engineering Calculation or Conclusion

A conclusion supported by appropriate engineering calculations, verified structural data or other suitable engineering evidence.

These are not the same thing.

A configuration that has appeared in a previous quotation or project should not automatically be presented as a verified engineering solution for another site.

DragonStructure therefore does not invent or assume project-specific:

load capacities, wind ratings, safety factors, ballast or foundation requirements, certification, compliance or engineering approval.

Where these factors are relevant, they must be evaluated using the actual structure, site conditions, loads, regulations and project requirements.

Start With the Structure, Not Just the Parts

When discussing a new temporary structure, a component list is useful—but it is usually not the best place to start.

We would rather first understand:

What are you trying to build?

What is its intended function?

What overall dimensions and working heights are required?

Does it need a stage, roof, LED support, sound support, access, stairs, working platforms or guardrails?

Do you already own Ringlock, Layher-compatible components, aluminum truss or other equipment that you want to reuse?

Are there drawings, photographs or an existing BOQ?

Once the requirement becomes clearer, the component configuration becomes much easier to discuss.

A useful structural discussion does not always begin with a finished drawing.
