Ringlock + Access Structure

Ringlock + Access Structure focuses on temporary structures where a Ringlock supporting system is integrated with stairs, working platforms, walkways and other access modules to create practical routes for personnel movement and work.

As part of our Hybrid Structure system, these projects combine two different structural functions:

Ringlock creates the main supporting structure. Access modules allow people to enter, move through and work within that structure.

From our project experience, this relationship becomes increasingly important as temporary structures develop in height, size and complexity. A large structure may be structurally complete, but it is not functionally complete until the required working positions and access routes have also been considered.

Why Integrate Access with Ringlock?

A simple temporary structure may require only one stair or ladder.

A larger Ringlock structure can create a very different access problem.

Personnel may need to:

  • reach several platform levels;

  • move between different structural zones;

  • access technical equipment;

  • perform installation or maintenance work;

  • reach elevated working positions;

  • enter and leave the structure through practical routes.

At this point, access is no longer simply an accessory.

It becomes part of the structural configuration.

The basic relationship is:

Ringlock Main Structure → Access Route → Working Position → Functional Area

This is the core logic of Ringlock + Access Structure.

Ringlock + Stair Structure

Stairs are one of the most direct ways to integrate access into a Ringlock structure.

The Ringlock system establishes the main structural levels, while stair modules provide vertical movement between them.

Depending on the project, stairs may connect:

  • ground to the first platform;

  • multiple working levels;

  • technical platforms;

  • stage structures;

  • FOH structures;

  • elevated installation areas.

The important point is that the stair configuration should relate to the height and layout of the main structure.

As the number of levels increases, the stair is no longer an isolated component. Intermediate platforms, changes in direction and connections with different structural levels may become part of the complete access route.

Ringlock + Working Platform

Access is not only about reaching a position.

Personnel may also need a practical area where installation, inspection or maintenance work can be performed.

A Working Platform Structure can therefore become part of a larger Ringlock configuration.

The functional relationship becomes:

Ringlock Structure → Access → Working Platform → Work Position

This can be useful when technicians need to remain at a particular elevation or when a larger usable area is required around equipment or structural connections.

The platform should therefore be considered according to its actual working function rather than simply added wherever space is available.

Ringlock + Walkway

Walkways solve a different access problem.

Instead of connecting different elevations, they can connect different positions or structural zones at similar heights.

For example, a temporary project may contain two working areas separated by part of the main structure. An elevated walkway can create a direct route between them without requiring personnel to return to ground level.

This becomes increasingly useful in:

  • multi-level structures;

  • technical areas;

  • large temporary installations;

  • maintenance access;

  • event production structures.

Stairs, intermediate platforms and walkways can therefore work together as one continuous access system.

Integrating Aluminum Access Components

One particularly useful hybrid approach is the integration of aluminum access components with a Ringlock supporting structure.

Aluminum scaffold systems commonly use lightweight stair, platform and walkway components designed for repeated assembly and handling.

In some projects, these components can be adapted in dimensions, supporting arrangement or connection details so that they work with the modular grid of a Ringlock structure.

Instead of requiring the access system and Ringlock structure to remain completely separate, the project can use:

Ringlock → main structural framework

Aluminum Access → stairs, platforms and walkways

The value of this approach is not simply the use of two materials. It allows each system to perform the function for which it is practical.

This is also why DragonStructure treats Ringlock + Access as a hybrid structural configuration, rather than as a collection of scaffold accessories.

Access Should Be Considered Early

In larger temporary projects, one common planning mistake is to configure the main structure first and consider personnel access afterward.

This can create practical conflicts.

A stair may occupy space required for another structural function.

A working platform may need support at a location that was not considered in the original grid.

A walkway may need to connect two areas whose platform elevations do not align.

For this reason, we prefer to consider:

Structure + Working Position + Access Route

together during the configuration stage.

This allows the main supporting structure and the access system to develop as parts of one project.

Applications Within Larger Temporary Structures

Ringlock + Access configurations can appear throughout DragonStructure projects.

A FOH & Control Structure may require stairs connecting several control or technical levels.

A Seating & Grandstand Structure may require stairs and circulation routes between audience levels.

Stage, LED and sound-support structures may require temporary working platforms or maintenance access during installation and operation.

The access solution therefore changes according to who needs to reach the structure, where they need to go and what they need to do when they arrive.
