Sound Support Structure

Sound Support Structure focuses on temporary structural systems used to support or position line arrays, PA equipment and other professional sound systems for concerts and large event productions.

As part of our Ringlock Structure system, these structures can form independent sound towers or become dedicated supporting zones beside a larger stage structure.

From our project experience, a sound support structure should start with the actual sound-system requirement rather than a fixed tower size. The equipment position, installation height and supporting or hanging arrangement determine what kind of structural zone is required.

How a Sound Support Structure Is Configured

A typical sound support structure can be understood through several functional parts:

Equipment Position
The required position of the line array or PA equipment establishes where the sound-support zone needs to be located in relation to the audience and main stage.

Main Supporting Structure
Ringlock standards and horizontal members create the main three-dimensional supporting framework.

Bracing Structure
Diagonal members provide restraint within the supporting structure and help maintain the required structural geometry as the tower develops in height.

Equipment Support or Hanging Area
The upper structural area provides the position where the sound equipment or its supporting components are integrated with the structure.

Base Structure
The lower supporting zone establishes the footprint and transfers the structure toward the ground.

The general relationship is:

Sound Equipment → Support / Hanging Position → Main Supporting Structure → Base → Ground

This is different from an LED Screen Structure, where a large display area often defines the width and height of the supporting structure. Sound structures are more strongly influenced by equipment position, concentrated support requirements and the required operating height.

Sound Tower or Integrated Sound Wing

Not every sound-support structure needs to use the same configuration.

An independent sound tower can be positioned beside the audience or performance area when the sound system requires a separate structural location.

In a larger concert stage, the sound-support area may instead become part of a side wing beside the main Stage & Platform Structure.

This distinction is important.

A standalone sound tower is developed as an independent structure with its own footprint and supporting arrangement.

An integrated sound wing must also be considered in relation to the surrounding stage, roof, LED and other structural modules.

The equipment may perform the same acoustic function, but the supporting structure can be very different.

The Sound System Defines the Starting Requirements

For this type of structure, knowing only that a project needs a "line array" is not enough.

When developing the configuration, practical information such as the equipment arrangement, total supported load, required elevation and installation position becomes important.

If the line array becomes heavier, the structure cannot simply be assumed to remain unchanged.

If the required hanging position becomes higher, the supporting geometry and bracing arrangement may also change.

If the sound tower moves from an independent position into the main stage wing, its relationship with the surrounding structure changes again.

This is why we treat the sound equipment and the supporting structure as two connected systems rather than one fixed product.

For exact equipment loads or project-specific structural verification, the final configuration should be checked against the actual sound equipment and complete project conditions rather than assigned a universal capacity from the tower dimensions alone.

Ringlock and Aluminum Truss Integration

Some sound-support configurations combine more than one structural system.

Ringlock can create the main supporting tower or wing, while an aluminum truss beam may be incorporated in the upper area where a lightweight equipment-support or hanging member is more practical.

In this arrangement:

Ringlock creates the supporting volume → aluminum truss provides the equipment-supporting beam → sound equipment occupies the required operating position.

This type of configuration is particularly relevant to our Hybrid Structure system because the aluminum truss is not being treated as an independent truss product; it performs a specific function within the larger structural solution.
